It's been a few days since I posted anything so I thought I would upload something just to keep things interesting. I've been working on lighting settings for the project and that's taken a lot of time because of all the the test rendering it requires. I'm still not done with it but I think (I hope) I'm getting pretty close now.
Here is a video that is actually two test video clips back to back.
The first half is an animation test of an Imperial Star Destroyer flying over the right shoulder of the camera from the rear. It was rendered in low resolution and in wire frame in order to speed up the test so that's why it looks the way it does. There was also no special lighting effects for the same reason. It was to see if the speed and perspective of the shot looked ok.
The second half is a similar shot but with full lighting and textures. This was to test lighting settings. The settings were not right and that's why there is flickering and artifacts. However, it does give some idea as to what the ship will look like once the settings are dialed in.

Ok here is another test shot of the Star Destroyer fly over. This time it is at a higher resolution and has textures and lighting applied. The flickering is caused by the global illumination and final gathering. I have to make some adjustments to those settings to try to eliminate that so I will be working on that next.

Here is yet another video clip of the Star Destroyer. The ship now has an ambient occlusion layer applied for the shadows.
I've been having trouble getting the engine lighting to cooperate with the rest of the lighting but hopefully I can get that corrected quickly.

The ship now has lighting, textures and shadows applied. I still need to work on the lighting, colors and effects for the engine exhaust.
I also need to adjust the speed of the video and render at a higher resolution to clean up the jumpiness and the jaggies.

Ok, lighting has finally be corrected and engine lights are working.
This isn't rendered in as high a resolution as it could be in order to save rendering time. As it was, this particular clip took 2 hours and 35 minutes to render.

Just wanted to post a quick update. The project is still progressing and I should have something new posted in the next couple of days.
I've still been having some trouble getting the lighting settings adjusted so it's taken extra time to get the latest video clips created.

Here is a shot of the TIE fighter launch bay(s) in the Star Destroyer hanger bay. This is still being constructed and I'll post some more shots as the work progresses.

For some reason the Star Destroyer did not have a hatch door on the lower hangar entrance when I downloaded it so I had to make one from scratch. Since I had to do that I figured I would animate the door and since I was going to that trouble I decided at the last minute to have a Lambda class shuttle launch from the hangar.
Unfortunately it wasn't until after the rendering was complete that I noticed that the shuttle clips the door as it lowers from the Star Destroyer. I really didn't want to re-render it because this was about testing the door animation so I just left it the way it is.

Here is a recent shot of the Star Destroyer from the bottom rear of the ship. This is a still image from a longer animation.

Updated version of the Star Destroyer flying over with the engines lit. No sound in this file. This clip (or portions of it) will probably make it into the final video.
